Castlecrag is a suburb situated with the vague geographical region known as The North Shore of Sydney. Castlecrag is located 8 kilometres north of the Sydney Central Business District in the local government area of the City of Willoughby.

Castlecrag was initially planned by Walter and Marion Griffin. They named the suburb after the cliff face or crag overlooking middle harbor. The Griffins arrived at Castlecrag in 1925 after growing sick of the politics surrounding the planning of the nation’s capital, Canberra.

Many of the homes in Castlecrag were built using natural stone to fit into the environment. This was aimed to give the effect of human touch as opposed to mass production.

Recently residents have bee campaigning against the Warringah Freeway aimed to link the Harbour Bridge with the Northern Becaches.

The Griffins were impressed by the beauty of the natural landscape. They factored this beauty in and to not disturb it with the development of the land. To do this they planned to set aside 20% of the land in Castlecrag to be used as parklands.
