As one of Sydney’s water-front inner western suburbs, Chiswick is a picturesque and lively place to live. Located just nine kilometres out of Sydney’s central business district, Chiswick is easily accessible by either bus or ferry.

Although it does not have a large commercial area of its own, Chiswick is nearby to several commercial strips, including Drummoyne’s bustling shops and restaurants.

Chiswick, as part of the inner west, shares many of the characteristics of its surrounding suburbs. Sydney’s inner west has a reputation as a lively and exciting area with an enormous variety of food, goods and entertainment available to residents who live there, as well as Sydney-siders from all over the city who travel there to take part in what the Inner West has to offer.

Chiswick was first known by its Indigenous name Bigi Bigi then became part of the Five Dock Farm before it was changed to Chiswick in the 1850’s. It was named such by Dr Fortesque who owned an estate in the region and named it after the village in West London on the Thames.

The original inhabitants of the inner west region of Sydney were the Cadigal and Wangal people of the Eora nation.
