Dulwich Hill maintains a reputation for excellent Greek and Portugese food as the suburb was originally settled by Greek and Portuguese immigrants, and today it maintains a multicultural atmosphere. The main commercial strip is located at the intersection of Marrickville Rd and New Cantebury Rd. The strip features many Greek, Portuguese and Arabic eateries and shops, and is expanding as the area becomes increasingly gentrified.

Dulwich Hill typically has large, federation-style houses and wide streets, somewhat an anomaly in the usually more crowded terrace style that the Inner West is known for.

Dulwich Hill is expected to increase rapidly in population size over the next few decades as young professionals flock to the suburb for its village atmosphere and proximity to the CBD. The current population of the area sits around 12,981.
