Haberfield is a lively suburb situated in the Inner West. The area is known for its distinctly Italian feel, with many of the shops on its commercial street serving the large Italian population. Just over 23% of Haberfield residents speak Italian at home and around a quarter of the population are of Italian heritage, and the many home-made pasta shops, Italian bakery and gourmet pizza joints create the “Little Italy” feel of neighbouring Leichhardt. Haberfield Town Square includes numerous award-winning coffee shops, hand-made chocolate shops, delicatessens and butchers.

The Haberfield community has a reputation as a lively and active one, creating a village like, community atmosphere. The suburb is primarily a residential one, with housing similar to that of the surrounding Inner West suburbs – federation and Victorian style. There are around 6,650 residents in Haberfield according to the 2011 census.

A new light-rail development will make Haberfield even more accessible, with three tram station set to be added to the suburb. Already an easy distance to the CBD, Haberfield will follow suite with much of the Inner West and have access to multiple modes of public transport. Currently Haberfield is serviced primarily by Sydney Buses but the extension of the light-rail will give residents a different option of public transport.
