Castle Cove is named after Innisfallen Castle, which was built on the Castle Cove ridge from 1903-5 for Henry Hastings Willis, a member of NSW Parliament. Innisfallen Castle is a landmark in the area and can be seen from many points around Castle Cove and surrounding North Shore suburbs.

Castle Cove is mainly a residential suburb with a population of around 2,525 according to the 2011 census. Castle Cove is bordered by Roseville Chase, Willoughby North, Chatswood, and Middle Cove. It faces Killarney Heights across Middle Harbour. Castle Cove has many parks and reserves, including H D Robb Reserve and Castlecove Park.

In 2012, Castle Cove Public School celebrates its Diamond Jubilee. This is the only school in Castle Cove, but residents have access to many schools in the neighbouring suburbs such as Roseville Public and College as well as Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School and many others.

Castle Cove has significant Chinese and Armenian population, and it has a much higher percentage of younger and older people than the Sydney average. With 20.1% of the population under the age of 14 and 21.1% over the age of 65, making up over 41.2% of the population as a whole.
