Monterey, Sydney

Monterey is a relatively new suburb in southern Sydney, just south of Brighton-Le-Sands and in close proximity to Kogarah. It has a distinctively Californian feel to it, with street name such as Hollywood, Pasadena, and Culver. Monterey was split off from Brighton-Le-Sands and Ramsgate in the early 1970s, and shares Lady Robinson Beach with Brighton-Le-Sands and Ramsgate.

Like Brighton-Le-Sands, Monterey has the feel of a seaside resort, and is a primarily residential area with a high degree of diversity, with many residents who are of Greek or Egyptian descent.

There are no schools in Monterey, but as it is a relatively small suburb it is easy for its residents to send their children to schools elsewhere in the area, particularly in Kogarah.

There is a small area of shops on Chuter Avenue, but likewise Monterey residents take advantage of their proximity to Hurstville and Kogarah to do their shopping there.
