Rushcutters Bay is a tiny suburb in inner-east Sydney, sandwiched between Elizabeth Bay, Potts Point, Paddington,Edgecliff and Kings Cross. Rushcutters Bay had a population of 2,372 in the 2011 census and is administered by the City of Sydney.

Rushcutters Bay was originally names Rush Cutting Bay in the late 19th century owing to the quantities of rushes growing in the swamplands there, which early European residents used for thatching their houses.

Rushcutters Bay was the site of the iconic Sydney Stadium, for years this stadium was Sydney’s major sporting and entertainment venue. In 1908, 20,000 people watched the Boxing day battle beteen Jack Johnson and Tommy Burns. This was to be a world first fight as Jack Johnson became the first African American to win a world boxing title. Sydney Stadium was also the venue for The Beatles’ Sydney concert in 1964.
