St Leonards is a major population and business centre in Sydney’s northern suburbs. It is located on the North Shore and Northern train Lines, and most of its residents live in high-density housing such as flats and apartments, with only a few free-standing houses in the area.

The population of St Leonards is around 4,467 with most people aged between 25 and 40 years of age. St Leonards is the location of many businesses’ Australian headquarters, including 3 Mobile Australia, IBM, and Getty Images. It is also the home of Australian Rugby Union HQ, which relocated from North Sydney in 2007.

In addition, Royal North Shore Hospital in St Leonards is the biggest hospital north of Sydney Harbour. St Leonards also includes Gore Hill Cemetery on its western fringe: Gore Hill Cemetery was established in 1868 and was the original burying place of St Mary MacKillop.

The cemetery closed in 1974 and is now a major green space in St Leonards. St Leonards has campuses of North Sydney TAFE and the University of Technology, and is close to schools in neighbouring suburbs.
